Zulum’s entourage crawled on knees to escape Boko Haram ambush – Aide

More details have emerged about Wednesday’s Boko Haram ambush on the convoy of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

The incident which occurred on the Baga highway reportedly left 15 persons injured.

Giving more details about the incident, the governor’s media aide, Isa Gusau, explained that his principal embarked on the journey based on the army’s assurance that troops had liberated the town from Boko Haram extremists.

He confirmed that Zulum and his entourage however escaped the ambush and were in good condition..

“I was not there physically . The governor was heading to Baga from Munguno because the soldiers told him they have liberated Baga from the control of Boko Haram,” he told BBC Hausa Service on Thursday.

He further explained that the insurgents rained bullets on the convoy, forcing everyone to take cover.

Gusau said that some of those injured in the incident were policeman, government officials, amongst others.

He said that as everyone scampered for safety following the rain of bullets, they had to crawl on their knees to avoid being hit.

“They crawled for a distance on their knees. They sustained injuries. The Boko Haram insurgents were shooting,” Gusau stated.
