Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane has reacted to reports of Lionel Messi’s plan to quit Barcelona at the expiration of his current deal in 2021.
Messi has reportedly halted talks over contract extension as he is frustrated about Barcelona’s direction.
Zidane, whose side are currently leading their archrivals with four points with five games in La Liga, said he hoped the Spanish top-flight can retain stars such as the 33-year-old Argentine.
Asked about the possibility of Messi leaving Barcelona, the Frenchman said, “I don’t know what will happen but we hope not because he is in this league and we want the best in this league.”

He also publicly disagreed with the board, criticising sporting director Eric Abidal for appearing to blame the players for the sacking of Ernesto Valverde in January.
The club’s board election is due in 2021, when current president Josep Maria Bartomeu will have to step aside.
