Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the employment of 2,000 teachers to revamp the education sector in the state. The governor made the announcement during the Executive Council meeting at the Government House council chamber in Gusau.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the recruitment of teachers is part of the AGILE Program, which aims to improve the quality of teaching and students in schools across the state. The teachers will be employed in phases, with an initial 500 teachers to be recruited in the first quarter of this year.

The governor’s administration has made education its second priority, and has already made significant progress in the sector. This includes declaring a state of emergency in the educational sector in November 2023, and implementing various initiatives to improve education infrastructure and resources.

The recruitment of 2,000 teachers is expected to address critical areas of need in schools, particularly in subjects such as English, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, ICT, and entrepreneurship studies.
