The ongoing divorce case between Nollywood actor Yul Edochie and his estranged wife, May Edochie, has been adjourned yet again. The latest delay occurred on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja due to the absence of Yul Edochie’s lawyer.
Yul Edochie has been embroiled in controversy since April 2022, when he publicly announced his second wife, Judy Austin, and the birth of their child. This revelation caused significant tension with his first wife, May.
In August 2023, May Edochie filed for divorce from Yul. She also sought N100 million in damages from Judy Austin for adultery. The case has already experienced delays, with a previous postponement happening in March of this year.
Yul’s lawyer reportedly cited health reasons for missing the most recent hearing. May’s legal team expressed skepticism about the excuse but did not directly challenge its legitimacy.
Despite Yul Edochie’s presence in court, the absence of his lawyer prevented any substantive progress on the case. The court has rescheduled the hearing for sometime in June.
May Edochie’s legal team, led by Emeka Ugwuonye, expressed frustration with the delays but reaffirmed their confidence in obtaining a just resolution. They highlighted the complexity of the case, which encompasses issues related to social media conduct, child welfare, marital property division, May’s safety, and the ultimate legal status of the marriage.
