The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has cautioned Nigerians against believing the ruling All Progressives Congress’s promise to fight for the creation of state police across the country.
The group in a Sunday statement signed by its spokesman Emma Powerful described the promise as an “election gimmick” and “calculated fraud” being deployed by the party to deceive Nigerians.
A committee set up by the APC and headed by Kaduna Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai recommended the restructuring of the country, including creation of state police in its report submitted to the party leadership recently.
The government is yet to adopt or work on the recommendation.
However, the group urged Nigerians to avoid being deceived by the promise, saying it would be forgotten once the party wins reelection in 2019.
The statement read in part, “Even the most unintelligent person knows that this state police proposal is a key component, if not the central plank, of the report on restructuring by the APC committee appointed by the presidency.
“It is a calculated fraud designed to buy time and confuse the gullible. It is merely an election gimmick calculated to deflect attention and convey the impression that this is a listening government which is a lie.
“This APC regime promised restructuring before they were elected into power, today they are ardent opponents of restructuring. With this state police gimmick, once you elect them back in 2019 they will become critics of state police. Only the gullible and unintelligent will be taken in by this charade.”
The party reaffirmed its dedication to its primary aim of actualisation the creation of the sovereign nation of Biafra and nothing else is acceptable.
