The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Spokesman, Felix Morka, has refuted claims by Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alleging threats to his life.
Morka, in a statement on Tuesday, accused Obi of spreading falsehoods, maintaining that he never issued threats against the former presidential candidate or his family.
Obi had earlier alleged that his New Year message criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration had led to threats against him, his family, and associates. He referenced Morka’s comments during an interview on Arise TV on January 4, 2025, where Morka stated, “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and he has what’s coming to him.”
In response, Morka clarified that his statement was misinterpreted and taken out of context. He insisted that his comments contained no threats against Obi, his family, or associates.
“For the record, I did not threaten Mr. Obi or anyone else. Nothing I said during the interview or elsewhere suggests a threat,” Morka said. He added that Obi’s claims were “malicious, false, and attention-seeking.”
Morka further alleged that Obi’s accusations had incited online supporters to issue death threats against him and his family.
“It is unacceptable for a public figure like Obi to peddle falsehoods. His baseless allegations are an attempt to play the victim and mislead Nigerians,” Morka added.
He called on Obi to retract his claims and caution his supporters, warning that legal actions could be pursued to protect his reputation.
“As the National Spokesman of the APC, I will continue to hold opposition figures accountable for their actions, just as they hold our party and administration accountable. However, this must be based on truth and public trust, not lies and emotional blackmail,” Morka concluded.
