“You Are Selfish” – Fayose Tells Buhari’s Second Term Campaigners

2 Min Read

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has described those clamouring for President Muhammadu Buhari to seek a second term in office as “selfish people”.

He also accused them of not having the interest of the nation at heart.

The governor made this known in a statement through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka on Saturday.

It is unclear if Fayose was referring to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who visited President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday to encourage him to seek a second term in 2019.

In the statement, Fayose equally advised Buhari to reject the call to seek reelection, adding that he had failed at ending corruption and Boko Haram insurgency, two cardinal points of his 2015 manifesto.

The governor said the continued Boko Haram attacks and harsh economic realities in the country were “evidence of the President’s cluelessness and inability to steer the ship of the country.”

“For a President that was elected because he promised to fight corruption and clear the North- East of the Boko Haram insurgents within three months, the signs that he must take a bow and return home are clear,” Fayose said.

He further identified the kidnap of at least 105 girls from the Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State and recently released Transparency International’s report of corruption in Nigeria as enough justification for Buhari to throw in the towel.

The governor said, “President Buhari promised Nigerians that he would bring back the missing Chibok Girls and defeat Boko Haram within three months.

“After more than 32 months in office, Boko Haram is still killing Nigerians, while the herdsmen are also on a killing spree.

“Painfully, the same Boko Haram they claimed to have defeated suddenly became strong enough to kidnap over 100 students. This is unacceptable.”
