You are ruling like Adolf Hitler – IPOB blasts Okorocha

4 Min Read

Proscribed group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha of running the state the way Adolf Hitler ran Nazi Germany.

The group made this known in a Friday statement signed by its spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful.

IPOB said that the gestapo-style round up of innocent women exercising their civil rights, illegal detention by the government and continued humiliation of the Igbo race have taken a more devious turn.

The Herald recalls that 122 women, termed #Owerri112, were arrested penultimate Friday for embarking on a peaceful protest demanding the whereabouts of leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The women were subsequently ordered remanded in Owerri Prison until September 3 by Magistrate S.K Durumba.

However, the women were freed on Friday.

But IPOB lamented the forced pregnancy test performed on the women, many of whom are grandmothers, by Owerri Prison officials, saying it evoked an image of the treatment meted out to Jewish women in concentration camps during the Hitler-inspired Holocaust in Europe.

The statement read in part, “That this is allowed to happen in the 21st century, is an indictment of the impotency of United Nations, Britain, Africa Union and countless other human rights groups that receive aid and grants to defend human rights but only end up aiding gross violation of human rights in Biafra. Who in their right mind will subject a 64 year old woman to a pregnancy test, if not for the purpose of humiliation and inflicting of bodily harm.

“We the worldwide family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) wish to notify the world that plans to subject our women to invasive and undignified pregnancy test is a genocidal medical experimentation we will not allow to be performed on our mothers. No pregnancy will be conducted. The best option remains for the government to release our mothers unconditionally so they can seek independent medical attention elsewhere.”

Powerful accused the Buhari administration of plotting to eliminate as many Igbos as possible.

“The mass murder of IPOB family members by Buratai’s Nigerian soldiers in Igweocha (Port Harcourt), Nkpor, Enugu, Onitsha, Aba, Umuahia, Mbiama Bayelsa State is still fresh in our memory. This latest plan to forcefully subject our mothers and grand mothers to pregnancy test is part of a wider ploy to contaminate and infect them with diseases that may prove incurable in the long run. We ask that Imo State government desist from this deadly medical experimentation on our mothers,” the statement also read.

He queried the rationale behind condoning murderous Fulani groups that have visited mayhem on several communities in the country while peaceful Igbo protesters are being hounded.

However, Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha declined to respond to the allegations by IPOB.

Saturday Sun quoted his member aide, Sam Onwuemeodo as saying that Okorocha had no hand in the ordeal of the women.

Onwuemeodo challenged IPOB to explain the Imo State Government’s purported involvement in the Owerri incident.

Also, the state government said it would not join issues with IPOB over the matter as it was used to such blackmail.
