Yobe Govt. distributes relief materials to IDPs

2 Min Read

The Yobe Government Committee on Resettlement and Rehabilitation of Displaced Persons, has distributed relief materials to 38 returnee communities and others in self established camps.

The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, presided over the distribution of the relief materials, including food and non-food items to 10 returnee communities on Sunday.

Aliyu, who is also the chairman of the committee, said that the relief materials were to assist the returnees to resettle themselves so as to earn a decent living.

Represented by Alhaji Lamin Mohammed, the Commissioner for Education, Aliyu said “government provided rice, millet, maize, vegetable oil, beddings and clothes to assist you to resettle in your communities.“

He urged the benefiting communities of Katarko, Goniri, Ngirbuwa, Gujba, Gotala, Kawarmari, Kundiriyari, Gotala-Shettimari, Gotumba and Goyi-Ngomari, to complement the gesture by farming.

The Deputy Governor said the government was committed to assisting the displaced persons in order for them to live a dignified life.

The committee has so far provided food and non-food items to displaced persons in six self established camps in Kukareta, Kasaisa, Mohammed Gombe farm, Fuguri, Ngabarawa and Abbari.

“The committee also provided rice, millet, maize, sorghum, vegetable oil, mattresses, used clothes, soaps and others to displaced persons in 21 host communities.

“The IDPs in 21 host communities in Damaturu, Nguru, Giedam, Bade and Yunusari Local Government Areas have been provided with food and non-food items”.

He promised that government would continue to support other displaced persons to relocate to their communities, resettle and reclaim their means of livelihood.

The Deputy Governor cautioned the IDPs against diversion and disposal of the relief materials elsewhere for selfish reasons.

“We have set up a machinery in conjunction with security operatives to check the diversion of the materials.

“No beneficiary is allowed to take these materials outside the villages they were distributed to avoid selling them off,” he warned. (NAN)
