Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has said that the speculated 2023 presidential ambition of his Kaduna counterpart, Malam Nasir el-Rufai and All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, cannot destroy the party.
Buni stated this in a chat with British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa Service while reacting to comments over the fate of the party post-Buhari.
He said that the ambitions of both political heavyweights would strengthen the party, rather than tear it apart, going by the solid foundation laid by President Muhammadu Buhari through his performance in office.
“The ambitions of el-Rufai and Tinubu will further strengthen the party. This is because Buhari has laid a solid foundation in the party through his good governance.
“I don’t think their ambition will affect the party. You should know that for now, there is no party in Nigeria that is as formidable as the APC. The APC also controls more states than the other political parties,” the Yobe governor said.
In the same vein, Buni rejected the call for rotational presidency, saying it would only breed mediocrity.
On rotational presidency, the Yobe governor said, “People should be allowed to choose their President from any part of Nigeria. It’s not written anywhere that the President must come from a particular region. It was not even in any established order.”
