Yes daddy: Sue Peoples Gazette or apologise – Sowore tells Peter Obi

Obi and Sowore

Presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has charged his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi to make good his promise to sue online medium Peoples Gazette or apologise.

Sowore, who is the publisher of Sahara Reporters, said this in a Thursday tweet.

In an April 1 report that reverberated across the nation, Peoples Gazette published an audio clip of a pre-election phone conversation between Obi and Presiding Bishop of Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo.

In the clip, Obi supposedly called the February 25 presidential election “religious war” while soliciting Oyedepo’s help in getting Christian votes in the South-West geopolitical zone and the North-Central states of Kwara, Kogi and Niger.

In a statement released on April 5, Obi debunked the report and threatened to sue Peoples Gazette for publishing the audio clip.

“Let me reiterate that the audio call being circulated is fake, and at no time throughout the campaign and now did I ever say, think, or even imply that the 2023 election is, or was a religious war.

“The attempts to manipulate Nigerians is very sad and wicked. Our legal team (has) been instructed to take appropriate legal actions against Peoples Gazette and others,” Obi said in a statement.

Reacting on Thursday, Sowore tweeted, “It has been 7 or more days since @GazetteNGR released the damning blockbuster @PeterObi religious bigotry “Yes Daddy” phone audio to Bishop @DavidOyedepofdn, despite threats to sue @GazetteNGR his “lawyers” have not sent a single letter asking for a retraction or apology.

“I knew the threat was distraction so the lying machine could move on to telling another lie.

“@PeterObi must therefore apologise to @GazetteNGR for denigrating and libellously slandering and ridiculing their efforts.”
