Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade also known as ‘Mama Africa’ has in a recent interview with Sunday Spice opened up on how she’s maintained her spot in the industry and overall how she has dealt with sexual harassment.
Speaking during the interview, the singer revealed that some people whom she looked up to in the industry were sadly like other sexual predators in the industry.
She said: “Record label owners and show promoters are all guilty of this. Sexual harassment comes in different levels; some are intense, some are subtle, and some even come through third parties.
“However, I’ve never found myself in a situation that felt very uncomfortable.
“Once I see the signs, I run and the person would not even have the opportunity to go through with his evil plans. There are some people who I looked up to in the industry but surprisingly, they also wanted sex.”
Yemi Alade in the interview also spoke about her relationship with other female artistes in the industry. She noted specially that although she admires and loves Tiwa Savage’s works, she does not consider her to be a friend.
She said: “I do not consider Tiwa Savage a friend because I don’t know her favourite colour or meal and other intimate things. She is just my colleague.”
Speaking on her role models, Yemi Alade had a few names to mention including; P-Square and Omawumi from Nigeria and American music scene power couple, Beyonce and Jay Z.
