Who will win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar? is the question on the lips of many football fans across the globe.
Former England international, Wayne Rooney may just have the answer.
He predicted the winner of the 2022 World Cup scheduled to kick off on Sunday in an interview with The Times.
The 37-year-old tipped Argentina, who were runners-up in 2014, to win the Mundial.
According to him, Argentina have solid players, including seven-time Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi, to win the competition.
He added that the team’s victory in the Copa America in 2021 would give them the needed impetus to push for the World Cup trophy.
Argentina are in Group C alongside Mexico, Poland and Saudi Arabia.
Lionel Scaloni’s men will kick off their campaign against the oil-rich Saudis on Tuesday, November 22.
“For me, Argentina are the favourites. Unlike in 2018, they’ve plenty of good, solid players around Lionel Messi such as Lautaro Martínez, Paredes, De Paul and of course Di Maria.
“Winning the Copa America last year will have given them confidence and has taken a bit of pressure off them. The climate will suit them too.
“The only thing they’re missing is a No 9, that focal point in attack, but I think they’ll be really dangerous,” Rooney told The TImes.
