2 Min Read

Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, the Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called Federal and state governments to prioritise the welfare of workers, as the nation marks 2017 May day.

Makarfi made the call in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by Mr Dayo Adeyeye, the National Publicity Secretary, PDP National Caretaker Committee, to mark 2017 workers day.

He also called on government to consider incentives that would promote workers welfare.

“We call on the Federal and States Government across the Country to prioritise with despatch, the welfare of workers at all levels.

“A situation where some states cannot pay salaries of its workers is unacceptable.

“We urge the Federal Government to also consider other palliatives or incentives to reduce the suffering of Nigeria workers,” Makarfi said.

He congratulated Nigeria workers in both the private and public sectors for their contributions to nation building.

“It is remarkable that the efforts and services of our workers are traceable to the successes recorded so far in our national life.

Makarfi, called on workers in the country especially, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), to work in unity saying “the division among workers in the Country is unnecessary”(NAN)
