2 Min Read

A 42 year old security guard has been arrested for murder after he shot a 28 year old woman said to be his wife dead in a police station as she reported him for domestic violence.

The man attempted to escape after the killing but was chased down by police officers from the Madeira Police station where shooting took place.

According to the police, the woman from Eastern Cape was reporting her husband for domestic violence at the Community service centre when he entered and shot at her repeatedly without saying a word.

The woman died on the spot from the gunshot wounds while the man attempted to escape from the scene.

According to the Eastern Cape Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Liziwe Ntshinga who expressed dismay at the murder of the 28 year old woman, the murder weapon was confiscated from the guard.

He praised Police officers for chasing down the man saying acts of gender based violence and femicide will not be tolerated or forgiven and the security guard will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

South Africa has one of the highest rates of domestic violence and femicide in the world with at least one woman killed every three hours and at least 51 percent of all South African women have suffered one form of domestic violence or the other.

Many of the women are murdered by close relatives or lovers and spouses.
