A woman in the United States was on Monday sentenced to life in prison without parole after a judge convicted her of the 2014 murder of her three daughters.
The 32-year-old Carol Ann Coronado was covered in blood beside the bleeding, lifeless body of her children in their home in California on May 20, 2014, Daily News reports.
According to prosecutors, she murdered 2-year-old Sophia, 16-month-old Yazmine and 2-month-old Xenia, and also stabbed herself.
At her trial, the suspect argued through her counsel that she was insane, an argument the trial judge dismissed, stating that she was sane at the time of committing the crime.
Her lawyer maintained that she suffered from postpartum psychosis.
She was convicted of three counts of murder late last year.
The defence counsel then pleaded for leniency, asking the judge to send her to a mental health hospital instead of jail, a request the judge denied.
