Ogochukwu Nwosu was bathed with acid by unidentified persons on a motor bike at Illasa bus stop on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway on her way back from work.
The lady, who is currently gnashing in pain at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, has fingered the wife of her lover as the perpetrator of the act.
The victim, who sustained serious burns on her face, breast and neck, amongst other parts of her body, revealed that Mrs Chidi, the wife of her lover, had threatened thunder and brimstone on hearing about the duo’s plans to get married.
She said that Mr Chidi had been pestering her for marriage, to which she rejected his offer reminding him of his marital status.
Mr Chidi persisted with the proposal and went further to inform her about his plans to make his intention public so his wife could accept it.
Mrs Chidi, on hearing about her husband’s intentions, became furious and started sending threats to the lady. She also called her severally informing her of her plans to harm her should she go ahead with the marriage.
The victim’s brother, Peter, said that he recorded some of the conversations with Mrs Chidi, with which he reported the matter at Itire Police Division, adding that the suspect was arrested and detained for two days before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
It was however gathered that the police admitted the suspect took bail shortly after the matter got to the SCIID.
According to the counsel to the victim, Louis Nwaugbala and Anthony Obi, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja, had been petitioned over the matter.
The petition read in part, “Sometime in 2012, Mr Chidi approached our client with marriage proposal to which she refused because he was already married.
“Upon his insistence to go ahead with the marriage, our client advised him to inform his wife, which he did and all hell broke loose. Mrs Chidi started calling and threatening to wreck havoc before December, the purported month of the wedding between our client and her husband.
“Tragedy struck when our client was returning home from work on Thursday, 6th of October, 2016, she was bathed with acid by some men on a bike.”
The victim’s lawyer concluded that justice must be served and Ogochukwu must be flown abroad for a plastic surgery by the suspect and her husband in other to assuage the damage done to her.
