Nana Mkhize from the G section in Ulmazi, south of Durban, has left her loved ones in shock when she died on her wedding day.
The bride was said to have died an hour before her wedding ceremony.
The couple, who were already live-in lovers with four children, didn’t have enough money to solemnize their marriage until recently after saving up for it.
Nana had earlier had a dream where she was confronted by an old woman who warned her of her death on her wedding day.
The family, being a prayerful one, dismissed the dream, and decided to go ahead with the marriage.
The 20-year-union was suddenly cut short after the bride complained of a minor illness a day before her wedding, and gave up the ghost on the wedding day.
Husband to the bride, Fana, who has been left devastated by the news, lamented on his loss.
According to Fana, he had struggled for many years just to take her to the altar.
“I spoke to her in the afternoon, she was lying in the hospital on our big day. I also called her on Saturday morning, she didn’t answer but I didn’t think anything was wrong because her condition wasn’t critical,” he said.
“But at about 9am an hour before the wedding, I received a terrible call. I was told that my wife had died. I was shocked and devastated. I cried but I told my pastor to continue with the ceremony anyway.”
The eldest child of the couple, Samkelisiwe Maphumulo, 23, said she lost a loving mother.
“She made sure we never went to bed on an empty stomach. I can’t still believe she is dead.”
The husband however went ahead with the wedding despite her death.
