Mary Onu, a 44-year-old house wife and her daughter, have been charged to court for allegedly stealing a Nissan Infinity SUV and gifting it to their pastor, a prophet at the Solomon Orimisan of the Celestial Church of Christ, as a seed offering to God.
The incident, which happened at the church premises, have left many people baffled as Mrs Mary obtained the car under false pretences.
Onu, who had gone to the prophet for prayers, went and informed him of her intention to sow a seed into his ministry with the Infiniti model QX56, which is valued at N2million, for assisting her in prayers during her time of difficulty.
The unsuspecting man of God thanked her for the kind gesture and gave her the sum of N500,000 which she demanded as a paltry payment in exchange for the SUV.
Orimisan agreed to make the payment into her account once the car was delivered to the church premises.
Mary approached the car dealer and discussed about the purchase.
She drove the SUV to the church with the car dealer after promising him payment for the car at the church.
On getting to the church, Mary dashed inside and concluded her transaction with the pastor. After which, she left the car dealer and the man of God and bolted.
When the prophet came out and saw the car dealer, he asked him to leave and informed him he had settled with Mary.
It was then the prophet realized that Mary had scammed him as the owner explained what transpired between him and Mary before the vehicle was brought to the church.
The matter was reported to the police who trailed Mary and her daughter, Alice for several weeks and later arrested them in their hideout.
At the station, Mary confessed to the crime but claimed she had already spent the money to solve her personal problem.
They were charged before Magistrate’s Court sitting in Isolo on Thursday with conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence and stealing under the Criminal Code. They pleaded not guilty.
