A New Yorker, Arielle Egozi, has sparked an online debate for listing “sex work” as part of her work experience on her LinkedIn profile.

As reported by the New York Times, Arielle left her in-house employment a few weeks ago to pursue sex work and has it listed on her LinkedIn as work experience.

She says she charges exorbitant amounts and only works with clients who are “respectful, generous and grateful”. According to her, sex work is not much different from any other client-based business and though some people may not understand it, they’d better respect it.

Unfortunately, many do not share her sentiment that it is an empowering and respectable line of work. Others felt that it was too much information and she was “oversharing”.

In one comment, a man stated “if you have to tell people to respect what you do, It’s probably because there’s no respect in what you do.”

Several comments showed people expressing that they believe she was crossing a moral line while others believe that the respectability of prostitution as a profession and the autonomy of a woman in choosing that line of work is a conversation that needs to be had, in the same way we have conversations about abortion rights.
