A Miami woman died 10 hours after receiving buttocks injections, leaving behind two daughters, ages 7 and 8.
Suyima Torres, 28, paid $2,300 cash to pump up her rump at cosmetic surgery center Cuerpos Health and Aesthetics on April 11. Moments later, she staggered into the strip mall parking lot appearing disoriented. Torres was cold and trembling, despite the hot weather, witnesses say.
“I was looking at her, and she fell down so I went outside, I picked her up, I asked her where’s her car,” a neighboring business owner told NBC 6. After helping her up, he dialed 911.
The young mother was rushed to the hospital accompanied by the center’s owner, Ruth Planas. But Planas never told the doctors about the butt surgery, according to Torres’ mother, Coralia Espinosa.
Torres died later that day but the family thinks this story could have ended differently.
“Maybe if that woman would’ve told them early my daughter would still be here,” Espinosa said.
The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating the incident but has not named Planas as a suspect in Torres’ death.
Police took records, medications and computers from the center and questioned Planas. But she refused to provide any information on the Venezuelan doctor who performed the surgery, CBS Miami reports.
The surgeon is thought to have fled the country.
Torres died only 16 days after another young woman, 20-year-old Dailen Garcia, received butt implants from the same facility. Garcia was hospitalized in intensive care for vision problems and bleeding lungs. Her attorney is preparing her case for court.
Botched butt enhancements have become a problem in recent years. In perhaps the most notorious case of this kind, the “toxic tush” nurse Oneal Ron Morris, also from Florida, allegedly killed a woman by injecting Fix-a-Flat and rubber cement into her rear.
