Nigerian singer Ololade Ahmed, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that his colleague Wizkid reached out to him to be featured on his song ‘MMS’.
During a recent interactive session with fans on Instagram, Asake shared that he initially had someone else in mind for the song. However, producer P. Prime played the track for Wizkid, who expressed his interest in being part of it.
“I didn’t know I was going to put Wizkid on that song, to be honest. I had someone else in mind, but P. Prime played the song to Wiz, and Wiz said, ‘I f*ck with this song, I want to jump on it,’” Asake explained.
‘MMS’ was released on Friday as part of Asake’s third studio album, ‘Lungu Boy’. The song set a new record for the biggest first-day streams on Spotify Nigeria, amassing 870,000 streams. This surpassed the previous record held by Wizkid’s ‘IDK’ featuring Zlatan Ibile, which had 626,000 streams.
Additionally, Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ broke the record for the biggest first-day streams for an African album on Spotify, garnering 9.42 million streams on the Global Spotify Chart on its first day.
