The suspected Winners Chapel suicide bomber, who the police identified as Nathaniel Samuel but identified as Muhammad Sani by the Church, has said that he thought the explosives that he was carrying in the church were “fireworks”.
The security operatives of the Winners church in Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna had apprehended the suspected suicide bomber when the CCTV in the church captured suspicious acts by him and handed him over to the police when the content of his bag was discovered to be explosives.
The suspect said to newsmen on Monday at the state police command that he assumed the objects in his bag were “fireworks” meant for decoration until he discovered that “they are explosives” when searched.
He said:
“I went to the church in the morning at about past 8 am, so while I was seating down, I was listening to the sermon from the man of God. All of a sudden, I had a stomach ache, so I decided to go and use the toilet.
“When I came into the church, I was holding a bag which contained some of my items, some of my documents because a day before that day, I went for an event at Ngwamboro, Sabo.
“When we got to the station, they suspected they were fireworks meant for decoration.”
