Will Smith jump-started his acting career by starring on popular Nineties sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And now, almost 20 years after the series went off the air in 1996, the 46-year-old is looking to capitalize on Hollywood’s revival craze by rebooting the series.
According to TV Line, Will is currently developing a present-day reboot along with his production company, Overbrook. The original series revolved around wise-cracking Philadelphia teen Will – played by Smith – being sent to live with his aunt and uncle – the sophisticated Banks family – in Bel-Air, California, and the misadventures that ensued when the differing personalities collided.
TV Line noted that according to multiple sources, the reboot would ‘put a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series.’
The publication also reported that a pitch is currently being finalized, after which Overbrook will begin shopping it around.
