The governor-elect of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu has revealed that the All Progressives Congress governors have set their eyes on Ekiti State as the next state to be captured from the People’s Democratic Party currently holding sway in the state.
He made this known when he visited the national Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, John Oyegun on Wednesday evening.
Akeredolu, popularly referred to as ‘Aketi’ said, “When we have gained Ondo we will move to liberate Ekiti, this is an assurance”.
The visit of the Governor-elect to the APC national headquarters in company of some National Assembly members coincided with the inauguration of a campaign committee the party was holding to prosecute the campaign strategies for the upcoming Rivers state re-run elections.
Against media reports attempting to create some false insinuations geared at fuelling further misunderstanding between key stakeholders in the ruling party, Akeredolu during his visit to the party headquarters, informed Oyegun that he was in the party secretariat to show the national chairman his certificate of return which he received on Wednesday morning from INEC.
He said, “I had no alternative than to mention you [Oyegun] in my acceptance speech, you have won our respect, we owe it a duty to you to see that whatever charge you give us we go out and give our best to it’’
The occasion was witnessed by the Governors of Plateau state, Solomon Lalong who was the campaign council chairman for the Ondo election and Abdullahi Ganduje, who was on Wednesday evening inaugurated as the chairman of the campaign council for the upcoming Rivers re-run, state and National assembly elections coming up on the 10th of December, 2016.
Responding to Rotimi Akeredolu, the National Chairman of the APC, John Oyegun reminded him that the ruling party is known for service delivery, saying “We have no doubt that you will be guided by the Spirit of Change”
Oyegun further said ‘‘change the mantra and trajectory of Ondo people and ensure people working deserves to be paid as and when due”
He however stressed that the concern of the ruling party and indeed that of President Muhammadu Buhari is zero tolerance for violence during election, he said, “The President’s concern is that we must get to a stage that we must have no bloodshed during elections, by the same token elections must be violence free, the essence of deploying heavy security during elections is to ensure the safety of voters”.
Oyegun further stressed that God fortuitously saved Buhari for the hard period Nigeria is facing.
