The Commissioner for Environment in Rivers State, Dr. Igbiks Tamuno, was on Tuesday sacked by Governor Nyesom Wike while he (Tamuno) was holding a press conference.
Wike announced the sack in a statement issued to newsmen by Mr. Kelvin Ebiri, his Special Adviser on Media,
The governor directed the sacked commissioner to submit all government documents and property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment.
The commissioner was briefing journalists on ‘Soot and air quality in Rivers State’, during a press conference put together by the ministry in conjunction with Stakeholders Democracy Network at the Ministry of Justice building when he suddenly left the venue after whispering to some members of the high table.

It was learnt that Tamuno left the venue to attend to an emergency call from the office of the governor.
However, before the event came to an end, the statement relieving him of his duties was released by the governor’s spokesman.
The governor’s reason for sacking Tamuno, who was one of the most highly regarded pfficials in the administration, remains shrouded in secrecy.
