National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu’s comment that he could have stopped the 2023 ambitions of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and others but chose not to do so has attracted a scathing reaction from Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
Speaking while addressing his followers at his country home in Gboko on Friday, Ayu said, “I have been silent over all the things you are hearing against me because I don’t want any crack in the party I belong to in my State, I have the power to say ‘you and you will not go anywhere’ because I will insist that I must sign before you go anywhere.
“But I have signed for all candidates produced by the PDP to go ahead in their dreams, whether I like it or not, I signed.
“So, I was doing that believing that I cannot shoot myself in the leg.”
Reacting, Wike said Ayu lacked integrity and is “corrupt”.
The Rivers governor spoke while briefing journalists at his private residence in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
He dared the National Chairman to make good his threat.
“I dare the National Chairman to stop any contestant if he has what it takes. It is in this country where you say a man is very corrupt and he is trying to talk,” Wike said.
