Twenty-eight-year-old Amina Bature of Kubaru village, near Aso Pada, Nassarawa State, has dragged her 32-year-old husband, Yusuf Bature (of the same address) before a Grade 1 Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
The mother of four, who is seeking dissolution of her 15-year-old marriage, accused her husband of intimidation and theft.
Amina accused Yusuf of regularly hitting her with a stick used in controlling cows.
“He always hits me with a stick meant for cows and has also sold my property without my consent.
“Two days ago, he picked the stick as usual to beat me and I ran to the court.
“I am no longer interested in the marriage; the court should separate us,” she said.
The husband denied the allegations.
The trial judge, Mr Albert Maga, granted the accused a bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in the same amount.
Maga said the surety must be a responsible citizen with landed property and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
He also ordered that the surety write an undertaking that the accused would not commit a similar offence pending determination of the case.
He adjourned the case till January 23 for hearing.
