Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has confirmed the political war between himself and his successor, Dr Willie Obiano.
Peter Obi during a stakeholders meeting of the people’s democratic party in Akwa, was credited to have said that Willie Obiano was unfit for the job hence his profligacy and clueless administration.
The Governor also stated that he had assured his people that he would lead the campaign to vote out Obiano if he does not perform well in his first term.
He said, “In 2013, I took Obiano around Anambra State, to the markets, to every part of the state and the people kept asking me if I was sure of him as they did not know him, but would vote him because of me.
“I told them I would be the one to lead a campaign against Obiano if he does not perform well in his first term. Today, can anyone show me what the governor has done within his first term? He has nothing to show for it.”
Obi said winning a second term was usually an easy task for any performing governor as all that was needed was for the governor to point at his achievements in the first term and now tell the people what he would do in the second term and the people would vote for him.
“When I was working for my second term, each community I went to, I usually showed them what I had achieved, and that made it possible for the people to vote for me because they have seen what I can do.
“We challenge Obiano to show us what he has done in his first term. Go to all parts of the state where all of you came from, can you mention the things he has done? He has done nothing. That is why I am here to lead the campaign for his removal,” Obi said.
He charged the party to work hard for the enthronement of good leadership, saying that PDP has selected a credible candidate in Oseloka Obaze to succeed Obiano.
Obi expressed happiness that PDP in the state was now a united party, unlike before, when he(Obi) rode on the disunity in the party to win the state governorship election of the party twice.
“Anambra has always been a PDP state, and our entry has further popularised the party in the state. Go to the markets, everywhere, all that the people are saying is PDP. I was one of those who benefited from the party’s disunity, but today we are one.”
Recall that the rift between the governor and his godfather Peter Obi was said to have gotten worse shortly after Obiano took up office as governor, and hit at Obi through a statement credited to his Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu.
The SSG claimed that Obi left only N9bn in the state’s coffers as against N75bn claimed by the ex-governor. The SSG, who apparently was speaking on behalf of the governor, added that the Obiano government inherited a total contract sum of N185.1bn as liability from the Obi era.
Obi’s people quickly denied the allegations with facts and figures, thus opening a floodgate of accusations and counter-accusations that have built up what is today, an intractable hostility.
