Why We’re Confident We’ll Win Argentina- Gernot Rohr

2 Min Read

Nigeria’s coach at the World Cup, Gernot Rohr, has said that the team is confident of beating Argentina in the final group game which will take place today.

The coach bases this belief on the friendly the two played last year where Nigeria overcame a 2-0 deficit to run out 4-2 winners.

The Nigerians don’t have a great record against Argentina in the World Cup having lost to them on all the previous occasions they have locked horns at the tournament.

Speaking on the FIFA website, Rohr said he is confident that the Super Eagles can pull a rabbit out of the hat and find a result against an Argentina side that will boast the likes of Messi and Sergio Aguero.

He said; “Runs like that have to come to an end at some point! We’re confident because we beat Argentina in a friendly last year,”

“We were 2-0 down at half-time but went on to win 4-2. Lionel Messi didn’t play in that game but we scored four wonderful goals. That gives the boys hope. We’re ambitious underdogs; Argentina are definitely the favourites.

“With youthful abandon, enthusiasm and desire [we will win]. Most of our players want to get to where the Argentinians already are: the very top. The whole world will be watching this game and it’s a chance to show what we’re capable of.”

Argentina were beaten finalists in 2014 and could find themselves out in the first round if they lose to Nigeria today.
