The governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have declared as false the insinuations in some quarters that they visited President Muhammadu Buhari in his hometown, Daura, on Friday to convince him to seek reelection in 2019.
The governors said they visited the president to commiserate with him on the death of two members of his extended family within hours of each other last week.
The APC Governors Forum Chairman, Owelle Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, made the declaration on behalf of his colleagues in an interaction with journalists after a closed-door meeting with Buhari.
He added that the governors equally used the opportunity to commend the president for appointing a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the party’s reconciliation committee chairman.
Speaking on whether the governors had discussed second term with Buhari, Okorocha said: “We are yet to discuss that. That would be in next the meeting where we will discuss whether we want to support him to run or not.
“But for now, we came on the issue of the death of his two relatives and to commend him for action taken on Tinubu as a conciliator.”
