Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun has said that the team will perform well at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia if the players can be in the right physical shape.
He said this in an interview with BBC Sport.
Coach Gernot Rohr is on the verge of naming a 35-man provisional squad for the tournament but injury concerns continue to plague the team.
Henry Onyekuru, Tyronne Ebuehi, Joel Obi Mikel and Wilfred Ndidi have already missed multiple games for their clubs this season over injuries and they are in a race to be fit for the World Cup.
But Balogun said that barring the injury challenges, the team could do well in the competition.
He said, “We have a team capable of doing well in Russia and this team can perform to expectations if we have everyone in great shape,” Leon Balogun told BBC Sport.
“As a professional you don’t think so much about getting injured or avoiding it, you just give everything on the pitch for club and country.
“I know injuries come with football and if we are very lucky not have it, then all the players in Nigerian colours have the spirit to fight for success until the end.”
