Why Peter Obi should distance himself from supporters – Buhari’s ex-aide

2 Min Read

A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has urged the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, to distance himself from his supporters trying to “sabotage Nigeria” after Thursday’s Supreme Court judgement on the presidential election.

Ahmad said this in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday.

Recall that a seven-man panel of justices led by Justice Inyang Okoro dismissed the appeals of Obi and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Since the judgement, some Obi supporters, popularly known as Obidients, have faulted the apex court, while some vowed not to recognise Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s president.

Ahmad, who was Special Assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Communications, said it was time for Obi to denounce such unpatriotic supporters.

“Peter Obi should publicly denounce and distance himself from some of his supporters trying to sabotage Nigeria and its economy after the Supreme Court judgement.

“This is not how to show your grievances, even when you have any. The better way is to restrategise against 2027, build bridges, and canvass for more votes across the six geographical regions.

“Not doing anything about what his supporters are doing will only confirm that for Peter and those individuals, it was never about Nigeria and the well-being of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the LP candidate has announced he would be addressing the nation following the Supreme Court ruling.
