Members of the public who didn’t know what was going on thought they were witnessing a Royal Rumble.
Such was the enormity of the free-for-all that ensued among some members of the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Party Secretariat in Owerri, the state capital.
The fight occurred between two rival factions jostling for control in the state – one faction led by Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie and the other by Vitalis Okafor.
A Caretaker Committee headed by Okafor was on January 29 inaugurated to steer the ship of the party in the state, which did not sit down well with the Anyaehie-led group.
The rivalry came to a head on Saturday when the Anyaehie-led group invaded the secretariat with the aim of chasing everybody away, The Punch reports.
This was rebuffed by the other group, leading to the fracas.
It took the timely intervention of the security operatives attached to the party secretariat to break up the fight and restore normalcy.
The fight reportedly left several persons injured on both sides, while the police have condoned off the area to forestall any further breach of the peace.
