Why Okonjo-Iweala deserves WTO DG job – Fani-Kayode

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode says former Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala deserves to land the role of Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

He stated this in a tweet on Monday morning, while extolling the qualities of the Harvard University-trained economist with whom he served under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration.

The Herald recently reported that Okonjo-Iweala released a campaign video explaining why she is the best fit for the job especially now that the world is battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

She explained that if elected, she would rally WTO members at this critical moment, make the organisation listen to them, seek common ground, hunt for solutions, rebuild trust and return to its founding mission.

“I want to bring a fresh pair of eyes and ears to the WTO and make it fit to thrive for the 21st Century,” she stated.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode wrote, “The world must join hands to ensure that @NOIweala wins the race for the leadership of the WTO.

“She is by far the best candidate in the race.

“Those that are undermining her candidacy are misguided.

“I was in OBJ’s cabinet with this lady years ago. She is the best of the best!”
