Why my son-in-law must succeed me – Okorocha

3 Min Read

The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has explained his decision to back his son-in-law, Chief Uche Nwosu as the next governor of the state in 2019.

Okorocha said that he is backing Nwosu, who is his current Chief of Staff, for continuity of his laudable projects, especially the free and qualitative education programme.

In a Sunday statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha said that Nwosu was in the best position to consolidate on the achievements of the current administration.

He said that although some of his detractors opposed the free and qualitative education programme at inception, the programme is now being fruit that everyone can see.

He said that part of the fruit of the programme was the more than 600,000 increase in school enrolment from 381,000 in 2011 to over one million in 2017.

Another, he said, was that Imo state led the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) application for the seventh time.

While reiterating his preference for Nwosu, Okorocha said the state has continued to witness yearly improvement in WAEC performance, occupying the position of fifth best-performing state out of the 36 states in the 2018 WASSCE.

Furthermore, Okorocha said that his administration had initiated and completed at least 1,000 projects and dared his opponents to prove otherwise.

“We have also been claiming and indeed, truthfully, that what Governor Okorocha’s administration has achieved in less than eight years, have gone beyond all that those who had governed the state before him had achieved, when you put them together. Nobody has also challenged us or tried to fault our claims.

“We have equally gone the extra-mile to say that anybody who feels that he has a contrary claim to ours should indicate.

“And the best way to deal with such claim and counter-claim is for those concerned to itemise their claims, publish them for public consumption, while we also publish ours, for comparative analysis.”
