Popular lawyer, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has proffered an explanation for why members of the National Assembly receive abnormally high pay.
He made this known in a Sunday evening tweet via his verified Twitter handle.
Recall that Sen. Shehu Sani (APC – Kaduna Central) had last week revealed that members of the Upper Chamber receive N13.5 million monthly as “running cost”.
He added that the N13.5 million was accounted for, while another N700,000 was unaccounted for.
It also emerged afterwards that members of the House of Representatives receive N12 million monthly.
Speaking on the matter, Keyamo blamed abnormally high demands from the lawmaker’s constituents as a reason for the high pay.
He said, “The allowances of our legislators may be morally indefensible, but their constituents must take part of the blame as their demands on them are also morally inexcusable. Legislators are treated as ATM machines & constantly harassed to attend to various individual demands back home.”
