Why I donated N10m to Anglican College of Nursing – Peter Obi

3 Min Read

The 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has explained that he donated N10 million at the Foundation Stone Laying ceremony for Department of Midwifery and Public Health Nursing of the Millennium College of Nursing Sciences of the Diocese of Awka (Anglican Communion) based on his commitment to investing in and advancing the most critical aspect of human development – Health.

Obi said this in a Sunday statement he shared on his X account, saying the ceremony took place on Saturday.

The former Anambra governor expressed happiness with the giant strides made so far by the Proprietor of the College, Most Rev’d Dr Akexander Ibezim.

“I recall how, as the then Governor of Anambra State, I had supported the facility with 40 million Naira which enabled the initial establishment of the College.

“Today, they have grown bigger and better and will grow even more if they get more support. I have always said that governance should be about making society better by improving the lives of the citizens through people-oriented investments. Investing in Health, Education and poverty alleviation.

“These ideas propelled us to leave behind a vibrant health sector with about 12 schools of nursing and public health in Anambra.

“W.H.O. estimates a projected shortfall of 10 million health workers by 2030, mostly in low- and lower-middle-income countries. The investments we make today in training our healthcare workers will not only improve our health sector but also allow us to export our trained healthcare personnel to the global world for increased diaspora remittances.

“This is part of the vision of the New Nigeria. I thank Most Rev’d Alexander Ibezim for his kind words of gratitude to me and I thank the management and students of the Institution for their warm reception.

“I have always reaffirmed my commitment to investing in education and health because that is the best legacy that benefits a society for growth, development and progress. This is the fastest and best way to achieve the New Nigeria of our dreams,” Obi said.
