The young man that rushed at President Muhammadu Buhari in Kebbi on Thursday, Malam Mohammed Jamilu-Gundare, has said he did not mind losing his life as long as he achieved his aim of meeting his “hero” one-on-on.
He disclosed this on Friday in a chat with reporters in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi after reports circulated that he intended to harm the president.
A short video which showed the young man charging towards the president at the ongoing Agric Show in Argungu, Kebbi State had set tongues wagging.
Jamilu-Gundare however said that his intention was nothing close to what had been reported, noting that he only wanted to shake the president.
The 30-year-old graduate of Public Administration from Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto said, “Yesterday was a difficult day for me, to take a risk to attempt to get the attention of Mr President despite the heavy army of security personnel and architecture in the venue.
“I can tell you, even if I had died yesterday (Thursday), I would be happy that I have achieved my ambition to meet Mr. President one on one, that is what happened.
“But I am sorry for the disturbances I caused. I admit that it was a breach of protocol out of emotional love.
“Let me make it clear to the general public that I have not done so to secure a job and I am fulfilled to have achieved my mission of meeting the President one- on- one.”
