Why EFCC can’t arrest Tinubu despite ongoing investigation – Bawa

EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa

The Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, says the anti-graft body is investigating National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The EFCC boss stated this in an exclusive interview with Thisday published on Sunday.

He said the investigation does not end in a day.

According to Bawa, the commission will not rush to arrest the former Lagos governor so as not to be accused of conducting media trial.

“You asked me a question earlier about arresting people before investigation and now you are saying why didn’t we arrest Tinubu? Why didn’t you just say ‘arrest him?’

“Investigation is ongoing. When you are investigating matters like this, they don’t end in a day. Thousands of investigations are going on, on a daily basis.

“You understand? You know you are from the media. After you will say we are doing media trial,” Bawa said.

While the Lagos zonal head of EFCC, Bawa reportedly requested Tinubu’s asset declaration form.

His confirmation of an ongoing investigation on Tinubu came amid a fresh court battle between the former Lagos governor and an ex-associate,  Mr. Dapo Apara.

Apara, who is a former Managing Director of Alpha Beta LLP, on Wednesday filed a court process to stop Tinubu from controlling the company’s finances.

Popular lawyer,  Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) filed the suit before the Lagos State High Court on behalf of Apara.
