“Why Didn’t Buhari Visit Benue?”- Ex-Governor Challenges President

2 Min Read

Former Governor of Benue State Gabriel Suswam criticized the President for not visiting the State in the aftermath of the herdsmen crisis that engulfed the state.

There has been a great deal of chaos in the state due to villages, communities and farmlands being attacked leaving lives lost and survivors being displaced by the reckless acts of violence perpetrated by the terrorist herdsmen.

“One would expect that a place that lost 73 People at once, he (Buhari) would have been more concerned about visiting such area. One would expect that a responsive government would have visited Benue to condole with the people over the gruesome murder of innocent lives.” said the former governor who narrated that he had reached out to the governor Samuel Ortom to sympathize with him.

Suswam was perplexed as to why the President visited Nasarawa recently when he ought to have visited Benue in the wake of its turmoil caused by the killings.

In response to the former governor’s comments, Femi Adesina the special adviser to the president on media and publicity assured that the president would soon visit the state as well as other affected states.

While not giving a specific date scheduled for the visit to Benue state opined that contrary to some beliefs, the president acted swiftly to the crisis and deployed the necessary security personnel to Benue to restore calm to the area.
