Two men identified as Buhari Fannami and Ba-Kura Abdullahi have been arraigned before Justice M. T Salihu of the Federal High Court Maiduguri by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 on grounds that they separately gave false information to the agency under the whistle blowing policy.
One of the arraigned persons, Fannami, was reported to have misled the EFCC with the information regarding illegally acquired monies which was purported to have been buried at the residence of one Ba’a Lawan which the EFCC, upon investigation of the tip found out it was false.
Fannami however pleaded not guilty before the court leading the prosecution counsel, Alkassim Ja’afar to demand for a trial date while requesting that the court remand the accused person in the prison custody pending trial.
The presiding judge, Justice Salihu however adjourned the matter to June 7 and 8, 2017 for hearing and ordered the accused to be remanded in the prison custody.
Ba-Kura Abdullahi who was also arraigned before the court was accused of giving false information to the agency regarding an alleged large sum of money in naira and foreign currencies that were buried in the residence of one Ba’a Lawan.
Deciding on the case, Justice Salihu adjourned his case to June 7 and 8, 2017 for commencement of trial and further ordered the accused to be remanded in the prison custody.
