Communities in Orumba-South Local Government of Anambra state have cried out following the evil act perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen in the area.
The communities, not less than 15, on Tuesday raised alarm over the menace of herdsmen in their area as they alleged that the herdsmen are raping their wives and children.
Speaking on behalf of the affected communities, the spokesperson, Mr Chukwudi Ugochukwu disclosed the menace of the Fulani herdsmen at the Orumba-South Local Government Council secretariat in Umunze.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting of the people of the area, Mr Chukwudi Ugochukwu noted that the herdsmen have also destroyed their farms which has taken a negative toll on people’s livelihoods.
Reporting that no fewer than 20 rape incidents involving Fulani herdsmen had been reported in the area, he said: “We live along the boundary with Imo State by Arondizuogu. All the farmlands there have been devastated by the herdsmen.
“Some of our women have been raped on the farmlands but they refused to talk so that they will not be stigmatised. The entire Umunze is under threat.”
