We’ll resume food movement to South – Northern traders

Trucks conveying food items from North to South blocked at Kara in Jebba, Niger State

The leadership of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria has agreed to resume supply of foodstuff to the South six days after commencing an indefinite strike that halted the supply.

The union stated this after a Wednesday meeting spearheaded by Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello and former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.

Recall that the union stopped food supply from the North to the South last week after their members were allegedly killed and deprived of their possessions in the Southern part of the nation.

The strike caused the prices of foodstuff in Lagos and other parts of Southern Nigeria to skyrocket.

Some affected food items were pepper, tomatoes, beef, yam, and garri.

The Herald had reported that the Department of State Services (DSS) invited the President of the union, Mohammed Tahir over the strike.

The strike also caused pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere and popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho to launch a campaign against the consumption of cow meat in the South-West geopolitical zone.
