The abductors of eminent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman have demanded N300 million as ransom.
Sulaiman became popular for going around campaign rallies offering supplications for President Muhammadu Buhari.
Some unidentified gunmen abducted the popular Quranic reciter alongside four other Islamic clerics on Sheme-Kankara Road in Katsina while returning to Kano from a religious function in Kebbi last Thursday.
According to an audio recording obtained by PR Nigeria, the cleric’s abductors are demanding N300 million to set him free.
A member of the Kano-based cleric’s family, Mallam Kabir, said that the abductors had put them in distress since news of the incident broke.
He wondered why the abductors would abduct the cleric who is neither a wealthy businessman nor a politician.
Kabir said, “Everybody in the family and sympathisers are apprehensive.
“Though we are glad he is in good condition now, we are afraid of what the kidnappers may do to him if they don’t get any positive response from us.
“Notwithstanding, we pray he remains unharmed as we ask Allah to soften the hearts of his abductors so that they will set him free as soon as possible.”
