We’ll engage security personnel in management workshop subsequently, says Nesiama

The 2019 Access Bank Lagos City marathon may have come and gone but the Security Department led by Omatseye Nesiama, says security personnel will be engaged in security management workshop in subsequent editions.

The race held on Feb. 2 with first, second and third positions carting away 50,000, 40,000 and 30,000 dollars respectively.

Nesiama, the Security Consultant for the 42km race, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the need to engage security personnel was to ensure a more seamless security deployment and operation.

“For the next edition, we will have to engage some security personnel in security management workshops for key security and safety stakeholders that would be participating in subsequent editions.

“This is to ensure seamless security deployments and operation,” he said.

Nesiama said that he was pleased with the efforts of security agencies and stakeholders that supported security for the Lagos City Marathon.

“Of significance was the zeal with which trucks and tankers that were usually parked along Ikorodu road and Western Avenue were moved out and relocated.”

NAN reports that no fewer than 5,700 security personnel were engaged in the 2019 edition.

“This helped to mitigate one of the major identified risks to vulnerable runners, especially on race day,” he said.

He also commended the VIPs, especially Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, who arrived early to ensure that the race started exactly on time.

“This is a sign that the interest of athletes were kept uppermost by him. The beginning and ending of the race were a lot better managed in line with international best practices,” he said. (NAN)
