While speaking ahead of tomorrow’s Barclays Premier League game against Watford at Vicarage Road, the Chelsea boss, Guus Hiddink responded to questions related to the captain John Terry’s contract situation. According to him, he expects Terry to be at the peak between now and the end of the season.
“Firstly, I respect and like very much the way he’s playing and is committed to the team, and he will still be I can assure you of that because I had some conversations with him in the past days about all kinds of things in football”.
“It was said by John and he’s entitled, after his contract expires at the end of the season, to make up his mind. On the other hand, and I don’t want to over-value the attention we are giving it, there is also the club’s side. They still want to have a dialogue to have an open door”.
‘There has been no specific decision made yet, it’s early and we have to see what comes up with the transition of the management’.
‘The door is not shut, dialogue is always possible. John’s statistics and the view I have on him is that he’s very fit, not what you normally see for a player who is 35 or 36 when you can feel they are getting a bit slower and they cannot accept they are going into a danger-zone with red cards, none of that for John’.
‘He’s fit and performing, as he’s been doing since I’ve been here. He will do that regardless of the situation between him and the club. He will not just be professional but he will play with his heart as well.’
