“We need to collectively tackle insecurity” – Ganduje tells monarchs at Tinubu’s birthday

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has urged traditional rulers to play a major role in strengthening national unity.

Ganduje made the call in Kano on Monday at the 12th General Assembly Meeting of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria.

The governor stated that traditional rulers were strong stakeholders in the sustenance of national peace and unity.

“You are to lead your various communities in a manner that will promote peace, unity and development,” he said.

He further said that there was a need for stakeholders to brainstorm towards tackling the challenge of insecurity in the country.

“This meeting is timely, we need to talk as a people, we need to collectively tackle the menace of insecurity, drug abuse and other crimes in the land,” he said.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to stamp out crime and violence in the state.

“Our administration is aware of your unique role and position to partner with us in containing the security threats to our communities.

“We are prepared for a workable synergy with you in the interest of our peoples’ well-being,” he said.

Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar II, said that traditional rulers in the country were cognizant of the need to maintain Nigeria’s unity.

“As traditional rulers, we are committed to the unity, peace and development of this nation.

“ We urge every Nigerian to work towards sustaining the unity and growth of the country and its people,” he said.

The Sultan expressed regret that the assembly could not hold in 2021 due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

He urged Nigerians to obey all established preventive measures against the spread of the disease.

The News Agency of Nigerian (NAN) reports that the meeting is with with the theme, ‘Imperative of Unity, Peace and Development: The role of Traditional Rulers’.

The meeting was attended by first class traditional rulers from the 36 states and the FCT.
