Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has underscored the critical importance of effective leadership in propelling Nigeria and Africa towards greater success.
In an insightful interview with Elevate Africa, published on Thursday via YouTube, the globally celebrated artist shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s resilience and its vast potential for growth, provided the right leadership is in place.
“We can’t go forward without…we need the best leaders now first, that’s the most important thing,” Davido stated. He highlighted that while Nigerians possess remarkable resilience and adaptability, the lack of visionary leadership has hindered the country’s ability to achieve its full potential.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s strength, particularly in the face of challenges, Davido remarked, “I tell people, I say if you can survive in Lagos or you can survive in Nigeria rather, you can survive anywhere. I feel like we’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people.”
He pointed to the global presence of Nigerians as evidence of their influence and tenacity. “If you go anywhere in the world, everybody has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or…you have Nigerian friends everywhere in the world. I fly to do shows, Nigerian restaurants are there, and Nigerian communities are there. It just shows that we’re a force,” he added.
According to Davido, this widespread global influence reflects Nigeria’s potential to take a leadership role on the world stage. However, he emphasized that effective governance remains the missing ingredient.
“I just feel the only thing is just missing is just the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, I don’t think there’s anything that will stop us,” Davido concluded.
