We may endorse Osinbajo for 2023 presidency – CAN President

2 Min Read

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samson Ayokunle, has warned that Nigerians must pray against a religious war in the country.

According to him, a religious war spares no one and would leave devastating efforts on the land.

The CAN President equally urged the Federal Government to step up efforts on security to prevent “total annihilation of the entire country”.

Ayokunle spoke in an interview published by Saturday Sun.

Reacting to a question on whether recent events in Nigeria could provoke a religious war, the cleric said, “Religious war? You better pray that you don’t have religious war in the nation because the religious war will not spare anyone.

“So, it is not about CAN being afraid. It is about everybody working against anything that comes near a religious war. It spares no one.

“Go and tell them in Northern Ireland. Go and ask them in Sri Lanka and other places where religious war happened.

“It is a total devastation because you see brothers killing brothers, parents killing children; religious war is very brutal.”

Asked if the association would be endorsing a Christian for the 2023 presidency, Ayokunle noted: “We are going to support a righteous person, somebody with the fear of God.”

Pressed further on if the “righteous person” could be Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the CAN President said: “The right man; it can be Osinbajo, it can be any other person.”
